Cardinal Matteo Zuppi begins mission to Ukraine
Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, President of the Italian Bishops’ Conference (CEI), has begun a four-day visit to Ukraine. This is his second visit to the country since the start of the full-scale war. The visit began with a stop at the detention center Zakhid-1 in the Lviv region, where the Cardinal learned about the conditions in which prisoners are being held and met with them personally. During the visit, he presented them with gifts and assured them that Pope Leo XIV is praying for a swift end to the war, the release of prisoners, and the safe return of everyone to their homes.
