COMMUNIQUE

In order to meet the needs of the Ukraine population suffering from an extended conflict, in April of last year the Holy Father has asked for a collection to be taken in the local churches in Europe.

With the specific goal of examining and financing the proposed projects, the Secretariat of State of His Holiness on June 6, 2016 had established a Technical Committee called “The Pope for Ukraine” , under the presidency of His Excellency Monsignor Jan Sobilo, Auxiliary Bishop of Kharkiv-Zaporizhia. The Technical Committee has now concluded the expected one year of activity and has completed the task entrusted to it. According to the criteria elaborated and approved, the Committee has gathered the projects submitted according to the established norms, accurately examined and selected them, and, if approved, financed and monitored the projects. All the data is available on the web-site “Pope for Ukraine-Папа для Украïни”.

From September 1st, 2017 the Secretariat of State has established a Technical Secretariat with the task of continuing the collaboration with the Agencies already indicated by the Committee and completing them with new projects that will be submitted and examined in a simplified form.

The coordinator of this Secretariat will be His Excellency Monsignor Eduard Kava, OFM Conv., Auxiliary Bishop of Lviv of the Latins. Consultant will be Bishop Kenneth Nowakowski, of the Eparchy of New Westminster of the Ukrainians (Canada).

Further details will be given as soon as possible on the web-site “Pope for Ukraine-Папа для Украïни”, which will continue its activity.

The Secretariat of State asked the Apostolic Nunciature in Ukraine to express great appreciation and profound gratitude to the Committee “The Pope for Ukraine”, as well as, in a very special way, to its President, for the dedication, generosity and effectiveness of the work done. Furthermore, it expresses wishes of good work to the new Technical Secretariat, thanking it for the declared availability.

26th July 2017.
